Microsoft Gave Its Sellers Their Time Back. Revenue Followed.

Founders often ask us: "My sales team looks busy all day. So why isn't the pipeline moving?"

Because busy and selling are two different things. The only part of a seller's day that becomes revenue is time spent in live conversation with a customer.

Here's proof.

Microsoft's own sellers were jumping between systems to update forecasts and meet reporting needs, and many felt they spent more time on systems than with customers. Microsoft fixed this first in its small, medium and corporate sales organisation, where sellers handle large volumes of accounts. That's close to a high-volume inside sales desk at global scale.

The goal was to take admin off sellers' plates and put that time back into customers. In the first few months:

• Revenue per seller: +9.4%

• Opportunities per seller: +5%

• Win rates: +20%

The sellers, products and market stayed the same. The only change was more of the day spent with customers.

The catch most companies miss

A Gartner survey of 210 sales leaders in early 2026 found AI saves sellers about 4.8 hours a week. But 72% of sales organisations put very little of that time back into selling. They get the hours back and lose them to meetings, reports and tidying up.

What we take from this at BookMySales

We run inside and field sales teams for B2B companies every day. The teams that grow treat customer conversation time as the most expensive resource in the building.

• Judge a sales day by minutes in real conversations with decision-makers, not dial counts.

• Protect fixed calling blocks from internal work.

• Make logging fast so it never competes with the next call.

• When you save time, decide in advance where it goes.

How do you measure selling time in your team?
